Tiktoker Abdullah Al Mamun, popularly known as Prince Mamun, has been sent to jail in a case filed by his wife over allegations of physical assault and demanding a dowry of Tk1 crore.
On Friday, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Monirul Islam passed the order rejecting Mamun’s bail application. Earlier, the investigating officer of the case, Sub-Inspector Md Yaur Rahman of Vatara Police Station, produced the accused before the court following his arrest.
According to case statement, Mamun’s wife, Atqiya Faizah Mohana, a fashion model, filed the case at Vatara Police Station at 8:30am on Friday.
The complainant alleged that she married Mamun five months ago, but the couple had been facing marital discord ever since. Mohana said Mamun is addicted to drugs and involved in extramarital affairs with older women.
She added that Mamun had been demanding Tk1 crore as dowry to set up a shop and subjected her to physical and mental torture upon her refusal to pay.
The situation escalated at approximately 12:30am on Thursday night when an intoxicated Mamun arrived at Mohana’s residence in Bashundhara Residential Area. He reportedly demanded the dowry amount again, insisting she retrieve the funds from her parents.
When she refused, a heated argument ensued, during which Mamun allegedly verbally abused her and physically assaulted her with punches and kicks.
The case statement further details that Mamun attempted to strangle Mohana during the attack. She sustained a bloody injury below her left eye, swelling on her right ear, and various other injuries across her body.
During the court proceedings, Mamun’s lawyer moved a petition seeking his bail, while there was no legal representation for the complainant’s side at the time. After hearing the arguments, the magistrate ordered Mamun to be sent to prison.
