Three workers sustained burn injuries after a fire broke out at a digital scale warehouse in the Banshal area of Old Dhaka on Monday, reportedly caused by an electrical short circuit.

The incident occurred at around 11am at the warehouse of MR Enterprise in Tekerhat area of Nawabpur.

The injured were identified as Md Miraj, 25, Ifad, 20, and Roki, 26.

According to the victims, they had reopened the warehouse for the first time after the Eid holidays when the accident occurred.

Miraj said the workers entered the facility and switched on the electrical system, triggering a short circuit that quickly ignited a fire inside the warehouse.

The blaze left all three workers injured. They were immediately rushed to the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery for treatment.

Shawon Bin Rahman, resident surgeon at the institute, said Miraj suffered burns to 2 percent of his body, while Ifad and Roki sustained burns covering 25 percent and 23 percent of their bodies, respectively.

Hospital authorities said all three victims are receiving treatment and remain under medical observation.

Officials are investigating the cause of the fire and assessing the extent of the damage caused by the incident.
