Activists of banned organisation, Chhatra League (BCL), on Monday formed a human chain at the Dhaka University (DU) to press home a six-point demand.
The demonstration was staged in front of the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (Ducsu) building around 8am.
Following the protest, the organisation circulated a written statement containing their demands, which included the death penalty for former chief adviser Muhammad Yunus.
The student wing of currently activities banned Awami League alleged that former chief adviser “embezzled measles vaccine funds” and was involved in child deaths.
The organisation’s six-point demand includes the withdrawal of expulsion orders and legal cases filed against BCL leaders and activists across the country. They also demanded the unconditional release of arrested BCL activists.
Additionally, the group called for the identification and exemplary punishment of those involved in the killing of women and children, rape, child molestation in madrasas, and the online harassment of women.
Their other demands include stopping partisan appointments through “illegal notifications,” seeking justice for those who harassed teachers, and restoring the social dignity of educators.
When asked for comment, Dhaka University Proctor Md Israfil Ratan told TIMES of Bangladesh, “This could be done by anyone suddenly at any time, even for just two to three seconds. We are viewing the matter with importance”.
He further said CCTV footage is being verified to identify those involved. “Detailed information will be provided later once confirmed, Insha’Allah,” he added.
