Thieves kill RAB officer’s wife in Jamalpur home

A group of burglars strangled a woman to death with a scarf after they were caught red-handed and recognised by her.

The killing took place around 5:30am on Thursday at a rented home near the Shimla Bazar Ganmoydan area of Sarishabari municipality.

The victim was Lipi Akter 35, wife of assistant sub-inspector Mohor Uddin, who is currently serving in Rapid Action Battalion RAB-2.

Local sources said Lipi Akter, mother of two sons and a daughter, had faced two previous theft incidents at the same secluded house.

On Thursday evening, three thieves again entered the home by cutting the window grille.

Her daughter Mithi 11 said her brothers were staying at their uncle’s house. She said the thieves entered while she and her mother were asleep and strangled her mother with a scarf after she woke up and recognised them.

Neighbours took Lipi to hospital after responding to the child’s screams, where doctors declared her dead.

The incident has cast grief and fear across the neighbourhood, and preparations were under way to send the body for autopsy at the time of writing.

Sarishabari Police Station Officer in Charge Bachchu Mia, quoting the victim’s daughter, said the woman was killed after the thieves realised they had been recognised and that police were working to identify and arrest those involved.
