Independent film The University of Chankharpul is heading to Chorki, taking its sharp look at student politics, power and money to audiences at home and abroad.
The film will stream from midnight on 26 August, effectively 27 August.
Director Akash Haque drew on his own experiences, including the bitter realities of mass-room life when he began studying at Dhaka University. The film examines how power changes hands, the tactics used to gain control, and how money moves through political networks. It also shows how students become tools of power before being left with nothing when the tide turns, while some activists seek proximity to leaders through questionable means.
The same politics surfaces in the song ‘Sohomot Bhai’, written and composed by Tabib Mahmud, with vocals and music arrangement by Shubhra Raha.
After screenings at cinemas and other venues, the Chorki release offers the film a wider global audience.
The cast includes Devodyuti Aich, Rocky Khan, Boby Biswas, Akhtaruzzaman Azad, Abu Saeed, Ifad Hasan, Chyan Mondal, SA Jibon and Mahedi Hasan Sohan.
Haque directed, produced, wrote, edited and shot the film.
