Harry Styles is taking fans behind the scenes of his ongoing concert residency in New York, with filmmaker John Wilson reportedly directing a documentary that will combine live performances with stories from the world surrounding the pop star.
Wilson, known for HBO’s ‘How To with John Wilson’ and the documentary ‘The History of Concrete’, has been filming Styles at Madison Square Garden since August, according to Variety.
The project will follow the singer’s ‘Together, Together’ residency and offer a glimpse into the people involved, from Styles and his fans to the crew working behind the scenes.
Universal Pictures Content Group, Peanut World Pictures and Styles are producing the film. Universal Pictures Content Group will hold the documentary’s global rights.
The project is reportedly being considered for a theatrical release through Universal Pictures, although distribution plans have yet to be finalised. Representatives for Styles, Wilson and Universal did not immediately comment on the report.
Styles began his Madison Square Garden residency in late August. The run, part of his ‘Together, Together’ tour, is scheduled to continue until the end of October.
Wilson’s involvement brings an observational documentary approach to the project. His work often finds unusual human stories in everyday situations, suggesting the film may look beyond the concert stage to explore the experiences and people that shape a major live music event.
The documentary’s release date and final distribution plans have not yet been announced.
