Showmax has released the first trailer for ‘Die Kantoor’, the South African adaptation of the globally popular comedy series ‘The Office’, offering audiences a first look at its Afrikaans-language take on the workplace mockumentary.
The series will preview its opening episode on DStv channel kykNET on January 18, followed by a two-episode premiere on Showmax on January 20. New episodes will then air weekly on both platforms.
Albert Pretorius leads the cast as Flip, the misguided and self-important manager of a polony manufacturing company called Deluxe Processed Meats. The role mirrors the infamous office bosses previously played by Ricky Gervais and Steve Carell in the British and American versions of the show. Pretorius describes Flip as a man desperate to be admired, yet blind to how outdated and flawed his ideas of leadership and masculinity have become.
More than 20 years after The Office debuted in the UK, the format continues to travel globally. Die Kantoor marks the 14th international remake of the franchise, which remains one of the most influential sitcoms in television history.
The Showmax Original is produced by Rapid Blue, part of BBC Studios, with Bennie Fourie serving as head writer and director. BBC Studios is handling global distribution.
The ensemble cast includes Schalk Bezuidenhout, Ilse Oppelt, Carl Beukes, Daniah de Villiers, Mehboob Bawa, Sipumziwe Lucwaba, Lida Botha and newcomer Gert du Plessis.
