A former Union Parishad (UP) member was killed, and 30 others were injured in a clash between two rival groups in Nasirnagar upazila of Brahmanbaria.
The incident took place on Monday afternoon in Dharmandal village following a long-standing dispute centring previous enmity.
Deceased Jitu Mia, a former member of Dharmandal union and son of Alai Mia, succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at Habiganj Sadar Hospital later that night.
According to police and locals, tension had been simmering for a long time between the groups led by Jitu Mia and Ramzan Mia over local dominance. The situation escalated when Jitu Mia attended a wedding ceremony in the village on Monday. Members of the rival group reportedly became angry over his presence at the event, triggering an altercation between them.
The dispute soon turned violent as members of both groups engaged in clashes using locally made weapons, leaving at least 30 people injured. Police said the situation is now under control and investigation is underway.
