According to SCREENRANT report, speculation around ‘The Last of Us’ Part III has surged after fresh claims about the future of the popular Naughty Dog franchise circulated online, reigniting excitement among fans.
The series, first released in 2013, became a global phenomenon for its emotional storytelling and survival-based gameplay. Naughty Dog redefined the zombie genre through the journey of a father-daughter-style duo navigating a hostile post-apocalyptic world.
The franchise continued with The Last of Us Part II in 2020, followed by several remastered editions. It later expanded into a successful HBO adaptation starring Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey in lead roles.
Interest in a third game has grown in recent years, especially after uncertainty around the franchise’s direction. Naughty Dog cancelled The Last of Us Online, which further fuelled speculation about the next main instalment.
Naughty Dog head Neil Druckmann previously added to the uncertainty. He once suggested that Part II could be the final entry. However, he later said during the Grounded II: Making The Last of Us Part II documentary that he had begun to see a concept for a continuation.
He said, “I’ve been thinking, is there a concept there? For years I haven’t been able to find that concept, but recently that has changed. I don’t have a story, but I do have that concept. It feels as exciting as Part I and Part II. It feels like there is probably one more chapter to the story.”
Despite that comment, Naughty Dog has not confirmed The Last of Us Part III. The studio currently focuses on Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet as its next release.
However, gaming insider DanielRPK has claimed that The Last of Us Part III sits in development. He also suggested it would follow Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet and Uncharted 5. None of these projects have official confirmation from Naughty Dog.
The claims sparked discussion on forums such as r/GamingLeaksAndRumors. Some users questioned long development timelines, while others speculated about project sequencing within Naughty Dog’s future roadmap.
For now, the future of both The Last of Us and Uncharted franchises remains unclear. Fans continue to wait for official announcements as speculation around Naughty Dog’s next major projects intensifies.
