Huawei and the ICT Division brought together policymakers, regulators, industry leaders, and innovators at Bangladesh TechConnect 2025 on Wednesday to accelerate the country’s shift toward an innovation-led digital economy.
The event, themed Building a prosperous, innovative and inclusive Bangladesh through excellence in ICT, highlighted how emerging technologies such as AI, 5G, cloud, IoT, and fintech are reshaping governance, business, and daily life, according to a statement.
Chief Adviser’s Special Assistant for Posts Telecommunications and ICT Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb joined the programme virtually as chief guest, with about 300 participants from government agencies, mobile operators, ICT companies, fintech firms, enterprises, and universities attending.
The programme opened with a welcome address from ICT Division Secretary Shish Haider Chowdhury, followed by a formal inauguration by the chief guest.
The ICT Division’s ongoing TechConnect initiatives were presented through a series of thematic sessions.
Additional Secretary Md Mamunur Rashid Bhuiyan outlined the division’s strategic roadmap, while GSMA Asia Pacific Head Julian Gorman spoke on bridging the region’s digital divide.
Bangladesh Computer Council Executive Director Md Abu Sayed delivered a presentation on enterprise digital transformation.
A panel discussion moderated by the ICT Division Secretary featured representatives from the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission, mobile operators, and Huawei, who discussed strengthening digital infrastructure and accelerating technology adoption.
“Bangladesh began its digital transformation journey years ago, and in recent months we have renewed our pace and direction,” said Chief Adviser’s Special Assistant for Posts Telecommunications and ICT Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb.
“With support from our partners, we want to empower people through digital services,” he said.
Speaking at the event, ICT Division Secretary Shish Haider Chowdhury said Huawei has consistently supported the TechConnect initiative.
He said confidence in its success has grown with wider participation from government and industry.
Huawei and the ICT Division signed a memorandum of understanding in March 2025 to expand collaboration in innovation, capacity building, and ICT ecosystem development, and TechConnect 2025 is a continuation of that partnership.
The ICT Division has worked with Huawei for more than a decade to build core digital infrastructure, including Bangladesh’s first government cloud through the Huawei Cloud Stack platform.
The division has also led reforms in cybersecurity and expanded access to more than 100 public services through platforms such as MyGov.
Huawei, which has operated in Bangladesh for 27 years, said it remains committed to supporting the country’s ambition to build a fully connected and intelligent Bangladesh through sustained collaboration with government agencies, telecom operators, and enterprises.
