MPO-listed teachers and staff have rejected the government circular granting a 5% house rent allowance increase, and announced to continue their ongoing movement.
On Sunday, they continued sit-in and hunger strike for the eighth consecutive day at the Central Shaheed Minar.
As part of new programme, they announced “hunger march” towards the Shikkha Bhaban at noon.
The teachers warned that their movement would continue until a fresh circular issued increasing house rent by 20%, medical allowance to Tk 1,500, and festival bonus by 75%.
Earlier in the day, the Finance Division agreed to increase the house rent allowance by 5% of the basic salary, with a minimum of Tk 2,000 effective from 1 November, subject to six conditions.
The order was signed by Deputy Secretary of the Ministry of Finance, Mitu Mariam.
Following the issuance of the order, MPO-listed teachers and staff rejected it outright.
