The bodies of seven expatriates who were killed in a road accident in Oman have arrived in Sandwip, Chattogram.
On Sunday morning, the bodies were brought to Sandwip from Kumira Ghat in Sitakunda, by speedboat.
Earlier, the bodies reached Chattogram’s Shah Amanat International Airport on a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight at 8:15pm on Saturday. The airport authorities handed the bodies over to the families at around 9:20pm.
The deceased were Amin Majhi (50), Mohammad Shahabuddin (28), Mohammad Bablu (28), Mohammad Rocky (27), Mohammad Arzu (26), Mohammad Jewel (28), and Mosharraf Hossain Roni (26). They were engaged in fishing in the sea of Oman.
Meanwhile, the upazila administration confirmed that after washing and performing other formalities, the bodies were handed over for funeral prayers and burial in their respective hometowns. Therefore, no joint funeral was held.
Family members reported that on 8 October, the vehicle carrying the victims collided head-on with another vehicle in the Sidra area of Dhukhum province, Oman. Seven people died at the scene.
Amin Majhi’s brother, Ali Azgar, said, “We received my brother’s body from Chattogram Airport. The body arrived in Sandwip this morning.”
Sandwip Upazila Nirbahi Officer Mongchingnu Marma said, “The sudden death of the seven remittance warriors has deeply saddened the entire Sandwip community.”
