BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman is expected to come back to Bangladesh soon, said the party’s Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed.
He made the comment while addressing journalists outside the BNP chairperson’s office in Gulshan after a meeting of the standing committee around 11:30pm on Monday.
Salahuddin further said the committee meeting also focused on the prevailing political situation and outlined strategies for the upcoming election campaign.
He said, “He will return soon, InshaAllah.” However, he did not mention any specific date or time.
The standing committee meeting began around 9pm and continued for three hours. BNP’s acting chairman, Tarique Rahman, presided over the meeting from London.
During the meeting, discussions were held on the health condition and medical care of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia. Professor AZM Zahid Hossain, a standing committee member and Khaleda Zia’s personal physician, joined virtually from Evercare Hospital and presented her latest health updates to the committee.
Meanwhile, security has been beefed up for Khaleda Zia, who is undergoing treatment at the capital’s Evercare Hospital.
Around 2:00am on Tuesday, police put a barricade at the hospital’s main entrance. Hospital sources confirmed that more than two dozen officers were stationed to maintain smooth access for patients and visitors, prevent overcrowding, and strengthen Khaleda’s protection.
Additionally, Special Security Force (SSF) members reached the hospital at midnight.
