BNP Chairperson and former three-time prime minister Khaleda Zia has been declared a “Very, Very Important Person (VIP),” with the government assigning Special Security Force (SSF) protection for her and her family members.
According to a gazette notification, the decision has been made under Section 2(a) of the Special Security Force Act 2021, which authorises the government to designate individuals as “very important persons” and extend SSF security to them. The order takes immediate effect.
Khaleda Zia has been undergoing treatment at Evercare Hospital in the capital in recent days due to multiple age-related complications. Her deteriorating condition has drawn growing numbers of BNP leaders, activists and members of the public to the hospital premises.
Authorities said the increasing congestion was creating security concerns. Although police have been deployed outside the hospital, the surge of visitors has made it difficult to maintain order, prompting the decision to extend SSF protection.
