The interim government has appointed Upazila Nirbahi Officers (UNOs) to 77 more Upazilas, the lowest level of the administration, just weeks ahead the 13th National Parliamentary Election.
The Ministry of Public Administration on Monday issued a notification appointing officials of senior assistant secretary rank as new UNOs in these upazilas.
A total of 18 UNOs in Dhaka Division, four in Barishal, seven in Chattogram, 12 in Khulna, 11 in Rangpur, 14 in Rajshahi, eight in Sylhet, and three in Mymensingh were appointed.
Earlier, on 26 November, the government appointed new UNOs to 166 upazilas. With the latest appointments, new UNOs have now been assigned to a total of 243 upazilas.
According to the notification, the officers assigned as UNOs are being vested with the powers under Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1898, to perform duties as Executive Magistrates within their respective jurisdictions.
According to the notification, the newly appointed officers must join their new workplaces by 4 December.
