BNP Secretary General and Local Government Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir stated on Friday that Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has rescued the country from the brink of collapse.
Speaking as the special guest at a workers’ rally in the capital’s Nayapaltan to mark May Day, Fakhrul said Tarique, also the BNP chairman, has won the hearts of the people and is achieving successive victories.
He noted that the prime minister is currently building the state structure through his “I Have a Plan” programme.
“He is not only the prime minister but also a symbol of the hardworking people,” Fakhrul said, adding that Tarique Rahman has reconstructed the economy and the banking sector, which had been previously destroyed.
The rally was organised by the Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Sramik Dal, where Prime Minister Tarique Rahman was present as the chief guest.
During his address, the Local Government Minister paid tribute to the workers killed in previous movements and expressed his gratitude to the Prime Minister for taking the initiative to rehabilitate hawkers.
Fakhrul also raised several demands for the labour force, including the determination of a minimum wage, ensuring education for the children of workers, and improving the living standards of tea garden workers.
Referring to the Prime Minister’s address to Parliament on 30 April, Fakhrul remarked that he spoke like a “true statesman” with a vision to build a prosperous Bangladesh.
He further stated that the prime minister is the child of leaders who have consistently worked towards the construction of a democratic state.
