The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-4 has arrested Md Akash, alias Tan Akash, an accused in 13 cases including murder. He was apprehended early Tuesday from Hemayetpur area of Savar.
The arrest follows a violent incident on 10 June in Avenue-5 area of Mirpur Pallabi, which originated from an internal dispute over territorial dominance among members of “Langra Rubel” gang.
During the confrontation, Tan Akash, along with Gal Kata Rabbi, Al-Amin, Rapper Parvez, and several others, reportedly brandished foreign firearms and opened fire.
The shootout resulted in the injury of Hridoy, also known as “Gondar”, while another individual, Abdullah, was kidnapped. The incident caused significant public alarm and received extensive coverage across print, electronic, and social media platforms.
Following the event, an operational team from RAB-4 initiated a shadow investigation to identify and apprehend the suspects. Utilising information technology and intelligence leads, the team successfully tracked Tan Akash’s location to Savar.
During preliminary interrogation, it was revealed that Tan Akash has been involved in various criminal activities, including murder, extortion, robbery, and drug trafficking, across Pallabi and surrounding areas of the capital.
He is currently facing approximately 13 active cases at various police stations within the Dhaka Metropolitan area. RAB confirmed that the arrestee has been handed over to the relevant police station for further legal proceedings.
