A train carrying oil bound for Sylhet derailed near Montala Railway Station in Madhabpur Upazila, Hobiganj, causing a serious accident. The incident occurred at around 9pm on Wednesday. As a result, rail communication between Sylhet and the rest of the country remains suspended.
Eyewitnesses said the train derailed, leaving multiple carriages shattered, with several carriages thrown off the tracks and landing in adjacent fields.
Montala Railway Station Master Md Monir Mia confirmed the incident. He said the Sylhet-bound oil tanker train suddenly derailed and was thrown off the tracks.
He further said railway authorities were preparing to conduct rescue operations at the scene. However, no immediate information was available regarding the specific cause of the accident or any casualties.
Meanwhile, with rail communication suspended, passengers traveling to Sylhet are facing severe hardship.
Authorities said efforts are underway to complete the rescue work quickly and restore normal communication.
