Internet banking transactions increased by Tk1,99,545 crore in the first seven months of the fiscal year, marking a 32.19 per cent growth compared with the same period a year earlier, according to Bangladesh Bank data.
Transactions rose 15.35 per cent month on month in January to Tk1,36,348 crore, up by Tk18,142 crore from December.
The growth reflects rising popularity of internet banking, which enables instant transactions round the clock without the need to wait at bank counters.
Mobile financial services (MFS) remained the largest segment, with transactions rising 3.13 per cent in January to Tk1,72,919 crore, up by Tk5,244 crore.
bKash EVP and Head of Corporate Communications and Public Relations Shamsuddin Haider Dalim said the increase reflects growing public trust.
“The increase in MFS transactions is driven by growing public trust. This trust has been built over the past 14 to 15 years through the efforts of MFS platforms, including bKash,” he said.
“Transactions that once required time, travel, and waiting in queues at counters can now be completed via mobile phones,” he said.
He said users are now utilising a wider range of services, with many customers using 14 to 15 services compared with one or two earlier.
Year on year, MFS transactions rose 5.41 per cent during July to January, adding Tk56,981 crore.
