The American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham) in Bangladesh has named Syed Mohammad Kamal as its new president for the 2026–2028 term, alongside a fresh executive committee tasked with strengthening US–Bangladesh business ties.
The announcement was made on Sunday at the chamber’s installation ceremony held at the Grand Ballroom of Sheraton Dhaka in Banani, attended by diplomats, senior government officials, business leaders and development partners.
Kamal, vice president of Mastercard Bangladesh, takes charge of the chamber after serving in senior roles across financial services, fast-moving consumer goods, remittance and digital payments.
He previously worked with Western Union, Berger Paints Bangladesh and ACI Limited and has also served in leadership positions within AmCham and the Foreign Investors’ Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
MetLife Bangladesh CEO Ala Uddin Ahmad has been named vice president, while Reza Ur Rahman Mahmud, managing director of Philip Morris International Bangladesh, has been appointed treasurer.

The executive committee also includes Al-Mamun M Rashel of NATco Bangladesh Ltd, Habib Bhuiyan of Excelerate Energy Bangladesh, Sazzad Hossain of Avery Dennison Bangladesh and Sri Lanka and Ataur Rahim Chowdhury of ShopUp Bangladesh.
AmCham said the new leadership brings cross-sector expertise spanning financial services, insurance, energy, manufacturing and digital commerce, with a focus on investment facilitation, trade expansion and policy advocacy.
The committee outlined priorities including deepening US–Bangladesh economic engagement, relaunching the US Trade Show, expanding membership, strengthening sector-focused subcommittees and advancing policy reforms aimed at improving the investment climate.
Outgoing president Syed Ershad Ahmed highlighted institutional progress during his tenure.
The chamber also recognised departing executive committee members and election and appeal board officials for their contributions to governance and organisational continuity.
US Ambassador to Bangladesh Brent T Christensen attended the event and expressed support for the new leadership, reaffirming Washington’s commitment to strengthening bilateral economic ties.
The ceremony concluded with a cultural programme featuring Bangladeshi and American performances, underscoring long-standing commercial and people-to-people links between the two countries.
