The Internet Service Providers Association of Bangladesh (ISPAB) has condemned recent attacks, vandalism, looting and extortion targeting internet service provider companies across the country and called for exemplary punishment for those responsible. The statement was made at a press conference held on Sunday, 14 June, at the organisation’s office in Banani, Dhaka, where the association outlined a series of demands to authorities following what it described as coordinated incidents affecting the sector.
ISPAB President Mohammad Aminul Hakim said during the briefing that on the night of 9 June, the head office of Dot Internet in Lalmatia, Mohammadpur, was attacked, while simultaneous incidents were reported in Badda, Chandpur Sadar, Debidwar in Cumilla, Gazipur and Bogura. The association said the incidents raised serious concerns over the security of Bangladesh’s digital infrastructure and the continuity of internet services.
The organisation said the attacks were not isolated incidents but amounted to a broader assault on the country’s information technology infrastructure and digital economy. It added that groups of assailants entered offices, carried out vandalism and looting, and injured several employees, while also damaging key technological equipment and infrastructure.
ISPAB said the developments pose risks to sector stability, investor confidence and uninterrupted service delivery. It warned that continued insecurity could undermine trust in Bangladesh’s expanding digital ecosystem.
The association submitted a six-point demand to relevant government authorities, including the swift identification and arrest of those involved and ensuring exemplary punishment for perpetrators. It also called for IT and internet infrastructure to be treated as critical national assets, with enhanced security measures and stronger prevention mechanisms to avoid similar incidents in future.
ISPAB further urged authorities to ensure safe working conditions for affected companies, provide necessary support and instruct local police stations to take prompt action in response to such cases.
Aminul Hakim said safeguarding the ICT sector is essential as Bangladesh advances its digital transformation and develops a technology-driven economy, warning that failure to ensure security could negatively affect both investment and service delivery. He expressed hope that law enforcement agencies and the government would take swift action to investigate and ensure justice, said in a press.
Also present at the press conference were ISPAB Secretary General Nazmul Karim Bhuiyan, Vice President Neyamul Haque Khan, Joint Secretaries Mahbub Alam Raju and Fouad Mohammad Sharfuddin, Treasurer Moin Uddin Ahmed, and directors Rashedur Rahman Rajon, Md Mithu Howlader, Sabbir Ahmed, Raisul Islam Tuhin, Md Jubayer Islam and SM Saiful Islam Selim.
