The critical link between robust cities and a strong nation was underscored by Mr. Diepak Elmer, deputy head of mission and head of cooperation of the embassy of Switzerland, at a key urban development workshop.
He emphasized that Bangladesh’s ongoing efforts to modernize urban governance and bolster local economic development are fundamental for driving job creation, enhancing national competitiveness, and improving public services.
Mr. Elmer delivered his remarks at the C4C 2 and PRABRIDDHI Joint Sharing Workshop on Urban Governance and Economic Development. The event was convened by the Local Government Division in collaboration with JICA, the Embassy of Switzerland, and Swisscontact.
Highlighting the human element behind systemic change, Mr. Elmer stressed that institutional ownership and collaboration are paramount. He noted that tools and models alone are insufficient to transform cities, asserting that effective people and leadership are the essential drivers.
Reaffirming a continued partnership, Mr. Elmer committed Switzerland’s support to Bangladesh in its pursuit of ensuring that local governments continue to function as primary engines of prosperity and resilience for the country.
