MR Islam Swadhin has been appointed the first administrator of the newly formed Bogura City Corporation.
Swadhin, senior vice‑president of Bogura district unit of BNP, formally joined the post at the ministry on Tuesday morning.
Local Government Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and State Minister Mir Shah Alam were present at the time.
A gazette notification was issued by the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives on Monday.
The order states that Swadhin will serve as full‑time administrator until the city corporation is formally constituted or until further notice.
It added that until a new council is formed, he will exercise the powers and responsibilities of mayor, with entitlement to facilities and allowances as per rules.
Swadhin, a resident of Malatinagar in Bogura town, was named in the notification signed by Deputy Secretary Md Rabiul Islam.
Earlier, on 14 May, the government issued a gazette declaring Bogura as a city corporation.
Swadhin, a familiar face in Bogura politics, grew up through student politics. Born in Ananta Bala village near Mahasthangarh, he studied at Bogura Zilla School and later at Government Azizul Haque College after passing SSC in 1983.
He became involved with the Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, was elected to the student union after HSC, and played an active role in the anti‑autocracy movements of the 1990s. In 1992, he was elected president of the district Chhatra Dal.
He endured several jail terms during the autocratic regime and has since risen through BNP ranks.
Currently serving as district BNP vice‑president, he said he will make every effort to fulfill his responsibilities, with his first priority being to meet public aspirations.
