More than 200 Muslim devotees from six villages in Tahirpur Upazila of Sunamganj observed Eid-ul-Fitr on Friday, aligning their celebrations with Saudi Arabia, a tradition the community has maintained for nearly 70 to 80 years.
The main Eid congregation was held at Amatil Madhya Para Jame Mosque, adjacent to Amatil Government Primary School, at 10am, led by Maulana Tajul Islam.
Devotees from Amatil, Rajnilain, Puranghat, Laurergor, Putia, and Burungachra villages participated in the prayers.
Local resident Mati Mia said the community follows the guidance of Mirza Kil Dargah Sharif in Satkania, Chattogram, as their ancestors were disciples of the shrine.
Following the shrine’s instructions, they observe Ramadan and celebrate Eid in accordance with Saudi Arabia.
Despite inclement weather, worshippers began arriving at the mosque from 9am. The congregation started after an hour-long session of religious discussion, zikr, and azkar.
Tahirpur police were stationed outside the mosque to ensure security during the event.
