Khadija Yasmin Bithi, daughter of listed criminal Subrata Bain, has been shown arrested again in an attempted murder case linked to violence during the July uprising in Dhaka’s Badda area.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Ehsanul Islam passed the order on Saturday after investigation officer Md Aminur Rahman, Sub-Inspector of Bhataara Police Station, produced the accused before the court and sought permission to show her arrested in the case.
State prosecutor Shamsuddoha Sumon argued in favour of the application, saying preliminary evidence had been found regarding the accused’s involvement in the incident. No lawyer appeared on behalf of Khadija during the hearing.
According to the case statement, the incident took place on 5 August, 2024, in Pragati Sarani area under Bhataara Police Station during demonstrations supporting the quota reform movement.
The complaint alleges that armed activists affiliated with Awami League associate bodies attacked a procession, leaving Sohaili Tamanna critically injured. She reportedly sustained gunshot and sharp weapon injuries that permanently damaged the functioning of her left hand.
The victim later filed an attempted murder case with Badda Police Station over the incident.
In the application submitted to the court, the investigation officer stated that preliminary evidence had been found indicating Khadija Yasmin Bithi’s direct and indirect involvement in the attack.
The officer also argued that she could abscond and hamper the investigation if released on bail, making her arrest necessary for the case proceedings.
