Law Minister Md Asaduzzaman has said that if the DNA report in the case of seven-year-old Ramisa rape and murder is received within 72 hours, the charge sheet will be filed before Eid-ul-Adha.
He also said, “If the charge sheet is submitted without the DNA report, the trial process may be questioned later. Police will submit it immediately after receiving the DNA report. If everything goes well, it will be possible to submit it before the Eid.”
The minister made the remarks while attending a Legal Aid programme in Dhaka on Saturday.
Expressing his commitment to concluding the trial quickly, Asaduzzaman said that the trial for this brutal murder will begin immediately after the Eid holidays.
Regarding the delay in approval of death sentences (death reference) for such cases in the High Court, Asaduzzaman explained that when a death penalty is sent to the court for approval after being passed in the trial court, the preparation of the paper book (case history) takes a significant amount of time. As a result, there is a delay in obtaining the final verdict.
He said the government is working on how to make this process faster.
Meanwhile, Mirpur police said the investigation report in the killing case will be submitted within the timeframe set by the government.
On the other hand, Information Minister Zahir Uddin Swapan said the government took all necessary measures to bring the accused in the Ramisa murder case to justice in the shortest possible time under existing laws.
He was speaking at an event at the International Mother Language Institute in Segunbagicha, Dhaka.
The minister added that initiatives are underway to enact more effective and stricter laws, based on public opinion, to eliminate crimes such as rape.
The current government will make no compromises in combating crime, he added.
