Police have recovered several cocktail-like objects from inside a shopping bag on Elephant Road in the capital.
The objects were recovered around 10pm on Monday from the Bata Signal intersection on the road leading towards New Market.
Eyewitnesses said several masked youths were involved in a scuffle at the spot. A shopping bag was found there shortly afterwards. Police were alerted after several red tape-wrapped objects were found inside the bag.
Later, police cordoned off the area and informed the Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Bomb Disposal Unit. Members of the unit are currently examining the objects.
New Market Police Station Duty Officer SI Shaheen told TIMES of Bangladesh that police had cordoned off the area and the bomb disposal unit had arrived at the scene.
“More details will be known later,” he said.
