The platform “Anthropology Against Oppression” has staged a protest march and sit-in in front of Shahbagh Police Station, demanding the removal of Deputy Commissioner (DC) Masud, and an investigation into the assault on Dhaka University student leader Naim Uddin continues.
Starting from the Raju Memorial Sculpture at around 1pm, the protesters marched to the police station to hold their programme. A five-member delegation then entered the station to lodge a formal complaint.
The students alleged that the duty officer at Shahbagh Police Station was unwilling to accept any complaint directed “against any police member.”
Ania Fahmin, one of the protesters, told TIMES that since the DC was absent, they attempted to submit the complaint to the duty officer, who refused to receive it. She further claimed that the police also declined to record even a verbal complaint.
According to the protesters, a 24-hour ultimatum was previously issued during a rally on February 24, demanding a formal apology from the police, the formation of a neutral investigation committee, and legal action against DC Masud and other involved officers.
They stated that authorities had taken no action despite the deadline having passed.
Emphasising the need for an impartial probe, Fahmin said, “A fair trial is not possible while keeping DC Masud in his position. A neutral investigation cannot take place with the person who ordered the incident still in charge.”
She insisted that Masud’s removal is essential for the neutrality of the investigation committee.
