A 20-year-old student was stabbed to death following a dispute over a residential land boundary in Gaibandha Sadar Upazila.
Gaibandha Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) confirmed the matter. The incident took place around 10pm on Sunday.
The deceased has been identified as Fahmid Rumon. His elder brother, Fardin Ruhit, sustained critical injuries in the attack and is undergoing treatment at Gaibandha General Hospital.
According to locals and the victim’s family, Rumon’s family had been involved in a long-standing boundary dispute with neighbour Chhana Mia’s son, Akif Ahsan. Recently, they had the boundaries demarcated through a land surveyor’s measurement.
On the night of the incident, Chhana Mia and his associates obstructed the family as they attempted to construct a wall on the fixed boundary. This led to a heated argument between the two parties. At one point, Akif and his associates, in a fit of rage, stabbed Rumon and Ruhit.
Locals rescued the victims, but Rumon died while being transported to Gaibandha General Hospital.
Ruhit said, “After fixing the boundary by measuring, we went to build the wall. But Chhana Mia and his son Akif unfairly attacked us and killed my younger brother by stabbing him. I want fair justice for this brutal murder.”
OC added that an operation is underway to arrest those involved in the incident. Legal procedures are ongoing.
