A university student died after reportedly consuming toxic substance at his residence in the capital’s Rayerbazar area on Friday.
The deceased, Sourav Halder, 25, was a student of a private university, family members said.
He was brought to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) around 7:30pm in an unconscious state, where doctors declared him dead.
According to his sister, Sanjida Halder, the family lives in a rented house in Rayerbazar.
She said Sourav allegedly consumed a toxic liquid at home in the afternoon without the knowledge of other family members.
The student was rushed to hospital after his condition was noticed, but could not be saved.
She said the motive behind the incident remains unclear, though it may have been related to a personal matter.
The family’s ancestral home is in Bhimrul village under Jhalakathi Sadar upazila. His father is Amal Halder.
Inspector Md Faruk, in-charge of DMCH police outpost, said the body of the student has been kept at the morgue for further procedures.
