The Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) saw a slight pullback on September 1 as investors opted for short-term gains from recent rallies, leading the market to close nearly flat.

The DSEX, the benchmark index of the country’s premier bourse, shed 10.6 points, or 0.18 percent from the day before, to settle at 5,584 points.

While the market started the day with positive momentum, profit-booking pressure soon emerged. Investors began offloading recently appreciated stocks and reshuffling funds into other potential short-term opportunities, likely in anticipation of the upcoming June-closing earnings season.

Daily turnover, a key indicator of investor activity, saw a slight decrease of 8.9 percent to Tk 11.8 billion. The pharmaceutical sector led the turnover chart, contributing 14.8 percent, followed by textile (12.2 percent) and engineering (8.6 percent).
