A special architectural exhibition titled ‘Sthan–Kaal–Patra’ was inaugurated at Manik Mia Avenue in the capital on Tuesday, organised by the Institute of Architects Bangladesh (IAB) as part of Bangladesh ArchSummit 2025.
Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Administrator Mohammad Ejaz attended the opening ceremony as the chief guest, according to a press release.
In his inaugural address, Ejaz emphasised the crucial role of architecture and urban planning in building a liveable, humane and sustainable city.
He stressed the need to increase public architectural projects in urban public spaces and expressed his commitment to ensuring maximum cooperation of professional architects in future development initiatives aimed at improving urban standards.
He also noted that active participation of architects is indispensable for sustainable urban development.
‘Sthan–Kaal–Patra’ exhibition presents architecture not merely as a construction process, but as a cultural and humane practice deeply connected with people’s lives, memories, time and social realities.
Projects showcased in the exhibition highlight the multidimensional nature of contemporary architectural practice in Bangladesh, clearly reflecting local contexts, lifestyles and social realities.
With the objective of closely linking architectural practice to the everyday lives of city dwellers, the exhibition has been organised at several key locations across Dhaka.
As part of this initiative, hosting the exhibition at a prominent civic space like Manik Mia Avenue underscores the relationship between urban development, public space and people.
Speaking at the event, IAB President Dr Abu Sayeed pointed out the shortage of public spaces in Dhaka city. He noted that South Plaza and the adjacent forecourt, which were once open to the public, are currently closed.
In his welcome speech, Bangladesh ArchSummit 2025 Convener Architect Kazi M Arif said the primary objective of the exhibition is to present architectural practices in a simple and comprehensible manner for the general public and to raise awareness about the built environment.
