The state has appealed to the Appellate Division seeking a stay on the High Court directive that barred showing former Narayanganj City Corporation mayor Selina Hayat Ivy arrested or harassed without specific cases.
Ivy’s lawyer Motahar Hossain Sazu confirmed the development on Tuesday.
On 9 May last year, Ivy was arrested from Chunka Kutir in Deovog, Narayanganj and later shown arrested in several cases.
The High Court granted her bail in five cases, but the Appellate Division stayed those orders following state appeals.
She was shown arrested in five more cases on 18 November.
On 26 February, the High Court granted bail in those cases as well, but the state again secured a stay. Most recently, the Appellate Division upheld bail in 10 cases.
Meanwhile, Siddhirganj police applied to show Ivy arrested in two murder cases filed on 11 September 2024 and 30 June 2025. The Chief Judicial Magistrate of Narayanganj allowed the applications on 2 March and 12 April.
A writ petition was filed challenging the legality of those arrest‑showing processes.
On 26 April, after hearing, the High Court issued a rule asking why showing Ivy arrested in the two cases should not be declared beyond legal authority and against fundamental rights.
The court also directed that Ivy not be shown arrested or harassed without specific reasons.
