Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Tuesday said the government is determined to establish a modern, technology‑based and citizen‑friendly land management system so that people no longer face harassment or make unnecessary visits to government offices for land services.

He said, “In building a just and modern state, there is no alternative to a transparent, accountable and people‑friendly land management system.”

The premier said this while inaugurating a three‑day nationwide Land Service Fair‑2026 at the Land Building in Tejgaon around 11am.

The fair is being held simultaneously in districts and upazilas across the country on 19-21 May.

The PM stressed that providing services to citizens is not charity but a responsibility of the state.

He also outlined the government’s plan to establish a corruption‑free, harassment‑free, technology‑driven and citizen‑friendly land management system that will accelerate sustainable development. Land, he noted, is not merely property but a source of security, economic stability and future certainty.

Tarique said land disputes and complications have increased due to population growth and shrinking land availability. Modernising land services, he added, will help reduce disputes and limit the influence of middlemen.

Highlighting digitalisation efforts, he said citizens can now complete many services online from home, including land development tax payments and e‑mutation applications.

To assist those unable to access online services, 893 land service assistance centres have already been launched in 61 districts under private management, with plans to expand to every union.

A mobile app named Bhumi has also been introduced to bring services to people’s doorsteps.

The Ministry of Land is working to prepare accurate records through digital surveys and modern technology, with efforts underway to bring almost all land administration services under digital platforms.

Tarique recalled that the BNP had pledged in its 31‑point reform plan and election manifesto to modernise land management and organise land service fairs nationwide. He said, “Through this fair, the government has fulfilled another commitment made to the people.”

He also stressed the importance of alternative dispute resolution methods, including mediation, arbitration and conciliation, to settle land disputes quickly and reduce court pressure. Quoting Albert Einstein, he said, “Peace cannot be kept by force; it can only be achieved by understanding.”

Tarique urged officials and employees of the Land Ministry to ensure citizen‑friendly services and remain accountable to the people.

During the fair, citizens will receive services including e‑mutation applications, online land tax payments, record correction, certified copies of khatians and complaint support.
