Jordan named a 30-man provisional squad for the 2026 World Cup on Monday as the country prepares for its first appearance at football’s biggest tournament.
Coach Jamal Sellami selected a squad built around the core that reached the AFC Asian Cup final two and a half years ago. Jordan begin their Group J campaign against Austria before facing Algeria and reigning champions Argentina.
Mousa Al Tamari headlines the attacking options. The Rennes winger remains Jordan’s biggest international name and carries much of the team’s attacking responsibility alongside Yazan Al-Naimat and Ali Olwan.
Jordan also included goalkeeper Yazid Abulaila and experienced defender Abdallah Nasib. Midfielder Noor Al Rawabdeh joins the squad after strong performances with Malaysian club Selangor.
Sellami urged his players to follow the example set by Morocco at the last World Cup. Morocco reached the semi-finals in Qatar and became the first African nation to achieve that feat.
Jordan reached the World Cup after years of failed qualification campaigns and painful near misses. The country has steadily improved its level in Asian football over the past decade, culminating in its run to the Asian Cup final.
The squad mixes domestic league players with footballers based across Asia and Europe. Croatia-based forward Ibrahim Sabra and Seoul defender Yazan Al Arab add overseas experience to the group.
Jordan face their toughest test against Argentina in the final group match. The fixture could become the biggest occasion in the country’s football history.
