Dhaka-14 Member of Parliament Mir Ahmad Bin Quasem Arman fell victim to a mobile phone theft while attending the “Roktakkhore July” exhibition at Dhaka University’s Bottala. The event was organised by the Dhaka University branch of Islami Chhatra Shibir.
The incident occurred while the MP was conducting a live broadcast of the exhibition on his mobile phone.
According to Arman, a young man wearing an ID card identifying him as an organiser approached him during the broadcast. The youth reportedly offered to hold the device, suggesting the MP could speak more comfortably if he did so.
Trusting the individual due to the organiser’s badge, Arman handed over the phone, only to find shortly after that the youth had disappeared with the device. The MP later shared the incident on his Facebook account on Saturday night, saying he had been a victim of mobile fraud.
Speaking to the TIMES of Bangladesh, Sajjad Hossain Khan, the organisational secretary of Islami Chhatra Shibir’s Dhaka University branch, confirmed that the theft took place during Maghrib.
He said a General Diary (GD) has been filed regarding the matter and that the individual responsible has been identified. Sajjad further clarified that the suspect is not a member of Shibir and that the organisation is currently investigating how the individual managed to obtain an organiser’s badge.
