Youth and Sports State Minister Aminul Haque expressed strong concern over serious mismanagement at the Bir Sreshtho Shaheed Sipahi Mostafa Kamal Stadium in Kamalapur. The minister conducted a surprise inspection on Sunday afternoon, highlighting critical lapses in security, maintenance, and player facilities.
Haque noted that the stadium was largely unguarded and had become a hotspot for illicit activity. Reports indicated that valuable items, including floodlight components and blast equipment, had been stolen. Observing negligence among officials and security personnel, the minister directed the Executive Director of the National Sports Council to take immediate punitive measures, including transferring the responsible staff.
The minister criticised the stadium’s internal conditions, including makeshift tin-roofed dressing rooms, which he deemed unacceptable for a venue of international standards. He stressed that urgent refurbishment was required and tasked the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) with implementing the renovations swiftly.
Repairs and upgrades will be funded through FIFA’s development programme. Measures will include raising perimeter walls, installing barbed wire fencing, and implementing 24-hour security patrols with support from the local Mugda police. Haque pledged to restore the stadium to a safe and professional environment for athletes as soon as possible.
