South Africa maintained their unbeaten run in the 2026 Men’s T20 World Cup Super Eights with a thrilling five-wicket victory over Zimbabwe at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Sunday. Dewald Brevis top-scored with a blistering 42 to help the Proteas chase down 154, overcoming a superb all-round performance from Sikandar Raza.
After winning the toss, Zimbabwe elected to bat first. The innings began poorly, with both openers dismissed cheaply in the Powerplay. Brian Bennett added 15, Marumani scored 7, and Dion Myers contributed 11.
Sikandar Raza was the standout performer, scoring a vital 73 to anchor Zimbabwe’s innings. He received support from Clive Madande (26), but the rest of the batting lineup faltered under pressure. Zimbabwe posted a total of 153 in 20 overs.
In bowling, South Africa kept tight lines, regularly troubling the batters and restricting scoring opportunities.
Chasing 154, South Africa suffered an early jolt. Raza dismissed Quinton de Kock for a duck with a slower ball that gripped off the pitch, followed by Aiden Markram for just four with a deceptive carrom delivery.
Ryan Rickelton counter-attacked with three sixes but eventually fell for 31 after a spectacular catch by Ryan Burl. The Proteas were in trouble at 43/3, leaving the match finely poised.
Dewald Brevis then took command of the innings, scoring 42 off 18 balls, including two trademark no-look sixes off Graeme Cremer and a fluent drive off Blessing Muzarabani. David Miller joined with aggressive boundaries, taking the partnership past fifty quickly.
Despite breakthroughs from Muzarabani and Raza, Brevis’ innings, supported by George Linde (30* off 21) and Tristan Stubbs (21* off 24), guided South Africa home with 13 balls to spare.
South Africa’s win ensured they enter the semi-finals against New Zealand in Kolkata as the only unbeaten team in the tournament.
