The government has appointed a state defence counsel to represent the accused in the Ramisa rape and murder case, aiming to ensure fair trial proceedings in the case.
The Law and Justice Division’s Solicitor Wing issued a formal order in this regard on Saturday.
According to the order, Advocate Musa Kalimullah, a member of the Dhaka District Bar Association, has been appointed as state defence counsel in Case No. 1390/2026, which is being heard before the Dhaka Metropolitan Children Violence Suppression Tribunal.
The case, filed as Pallabi Police Station Case No. 35 on May 20, is registered under Section 9(2)/30 of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act, 2000, along with Sections 201 and 34 of the Penal Code.
Earlier, the government appointed Advocate Azizur Rahman Dulu as Special Public Prosecutor to conduct the case on behalf of the state.
Meanwhile, Judge Masrur Salekin of the Dhaka Metropolitan Children Violence Suppression Tribunal has set 1 June for the hearing on charge framing in the Ramisa murder case after accepting the charge sheet filed against the prime accused Sohel Rana and his wife Swapna Akter in connection with the rape and murder of eight-year-old schoolgirl Ramisa Akter in the capital’s Pallabi area.
The charge sheet was submitted on Sunday to the prosecution department by Sub-Inspector Ohiduzzaman, the investigating officer of the case at Pallabi Police Station.
Earlier, the government appointed Advocate Azizur Rahman Dulu as Special Public Prosecutor to conduct the case on behalf of the state.
