Bangladesh’s first multiplex chain, Star Cineplex, is expanding its footprint with two new branches set to open in Narayanganj and Bogura.
The company’s AGM of Media and Marketing, Mesbah Uddin Ahmed, confirmed that the new branches are expected to launch by Eid-ul-Fitr next year. Construction is currently in its final stages, with locations at Jhalkuri in Narayanganj and Police Plaza in Bogura.
Launched on October 8, 2004 at Bashundhara City Shopping Mall in Dhaka with three screens, Star Cineplex revolutionised the country’s moviegoing experience through its modern projection and sound systems, high-quality screens and comfortable seating.
When asked about previously announced branches in Cox’s Bazar, Chattogram and Cumilla, Mesbah said, “Those are still in progress and will open gradually. Our vision is to establish branches across the country.”
At present, Star Cineplex operates in Bashundhara City, Bangabandhu Military Museum (Bijoy Sarani), Shimanto Shambhar (Dhanmondi), Centre Point (Uttara), Sony Square (Mirpur) and Bali Arcade (Chattogram).
“The Rajshahi Hi-Tech Park branch, which suffered damage during an attack last year, remains temporarily closed but will reopen soon after renovations,” Mesbah added.
