Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad Hafiz Uddin Ahmad on Saturday lauded Lions International for its longstanding contribution to humanitarian causes, describing the organisation’s efforts to support disadvantaged communities as exemplary.
Addressing the 39th Annual Convention 2026 of Lions International Multiple District 315 Bangladesh at Hotel InterContinental Dhaka as chief guest, the Speaker said the organisation’s voluntary services had made a significant impact on the lives of underprivileged people both in Bangladesh and around the world.
“Lions International’s voluntary efforts in standing beside disadvantaged people are unique in the field of humanitarian service,” he said.
He noted that Lions International is one of the world’s largest voluntary service organisations and has been carrying out its activities in Bangladesh in a well-organised and effective manner.
The Speaker said voluntary organisations such as Lions International play a crucial role alongside the government in advancing social welfare and national development.
He added that the contributions of Lions members had opened new avenues in humanitarian work and nation-building, while the values of mutual respect, goodwill and discipline demonstrated by members could serve as an example for society.
Highlighting the organisation’s global reach, he said Lions International operates in more than 200 countries and geographical areas through a network of around 1.4 million members. Its activities include vision care, hunger relief, environmental protection, diabetes awareness, support for children with cancer, youth development and disaster-response initiatives.
The convention was presided over by Council Chairperson of Multiple District 315 Bangladesh Lion Md Ashraf Hossain Khan Hira, while Convention Chairperson Lion Sabina Siddika delivered the welcome address. International Director of Lions International Lion Nazmul Haque attended the programme as a special guest.
Prominent Lions leaders from Bangladesh and abroad also addressed the gathering, highlighting the organisation’s role in promoting social responsibility and humanitarian welfare.
During the event, the Speaker formally inaugurated the convention and unveiled its souvenir publication. Distinguished guests were presented with commemorative awards, while several individuals and organisations received recognition for their outstanding contributions to the Lions movement.
Speakers at the convention emphasised the need to further expand humanitarian and community service initiatives to reach more vulnerable and disadvantaged people across the country.
