Three students from South Point School & College’s Malibagh campus secured top positions for the Dhaka Region at the Notun Kuri Sports 2025–26 National Chess Competition, including an unbeaten national championship title, the institution said in a press release.
Warsia Khushbu, a Grade 8 student in the English Medium section, became national champion without losing a match, while fellow Grade 8 student Sidratul Muntaha Nafi finished runner-up in the same event. Muhtadi Tajwar Nashid, a Grade 6 student, secured the runner-up position in the boys’ category.
The closing and prize-giving ceremony was held at Bangladesh Army Stadium on 27 July, with Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, MP, attending as chief guest.
Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed, MP; Minister for Children, Women and Social Welfare A Z M Zahid Hossain, MP; State Minister for Youth and Sports Md Aminul Haque; and Youth and Sports Secretary Md Mahbub-ul-Alam were among the guests.
Winners from across Bangladesh received awards at the ceremony for their achievements in different events.
South Point School & College said the national recognition had brought pride and joy to its teachers, students and parents.
Founder and Chairman M A Rashid and Colonel Md Shamsul Alam, PSC (Retd), Principal of the Malibagh campus, congratulated the students on their achievements and on receiving recognition from the prime minister.
They said the students’ hard work, dedication and perseverance would help them bring further honour to the country and wished them continued success and a bright future.
South Point School & College previously became the unbeaten national champion at the National School Chess Championship 2025, organised by the ICT Division of the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh.
Following that victory, the institution represented Bangladesh at the World Schools Chess Championship in Kazakhstan.
