Smart Technologies (BD) Limited, the official distributor of Sony in Bangladesh operating under the brand name Sony-Smart, held the grand finale of its inaugural Movie Marathon 2026 competition at its Uttara showroom in Dhaka on Saturday, 23 May, with Mahmudul Haque from Noakhali district taking the top prize — a 65-inch Sony 4K Google television from Sony’s latest Bravia 5 series — in what organisers described as the first competition of its kind held in Bangladesh.
The event drew 2,435 applicants from across the country, of whom 40 were selected to compete across five rounds, with eight finalists ultimately advancing to the grand finale. Runner-up Nouf Shaheen Kona won a Sony Sound System ULT Field 7, while second runner-up Zahidul Islam received a Sony Sound System ULT Field 1. Each finalist also received the Ultimate Badge and a pair of Sony Noise Cancelling Headphones WF-CH520, while participants from earlier rounds received a Sony-Smart Movie Marathon souvenir and gift voucher.
The award ceremony was attended by Sony-Smart General Manager and Head of Sales Sarwar Jahan Chowdhury, Deputy General Manager and Head of Marketing Azad Rahman, Sony International (Pvt) Ltd Bangladesh Branch product specialist Md Delwer Hossain, and digital content creator, comedian, podcaster and actor Rakin Absar, along with Sony-Smart employees from various levels.
Speaking at the event, Sarwar Jahan Chowdhury said in a press release that Sony-Smart had built a nationwide customer and distribution network since beginning its partnership with Sony in Bangladesh five years ago. “Sony lovers in our country often get cheated when buying genuine Sony products. To ensure that customers are not cheated, Sony-Smart is providing the guarantee of genuine Sony products from Japan,” he said, adding that the company is the only organisation in Bangladesh to offer digital warranty services for Sony products.
Deputy General Manager and Head of Marketing Azad Rahman said the company’s community-oriented initiatives extended beyond product sales. “We are not just limiting ourselves to selling products but are also working for the welfare of our customers and the general public of the country. As part of this, we have organized healthcare camps and music competitions in different parts of the country in the past. This time, we have organized a movie marathon. We will continue such initiatives in the days to come,” he said.
Smart Technologies (BD) Limited is among the leading ICT product marketing organisations in Bangladesh, distributing products from more than 100 brands worldwide. The company signed its distributor agreement with Sony on 26 November 2021 and currently sells genuine Sony products through 30 dedicated showrooms, more than 210 partner showrooms and more than 2,500 IT partners across the country.
