Singer Sonu Nigam has drawn mixed reactions after choosing not to comment on the ongoing protests over the alleged NEET-UG 2026 paper leak during a recent media interaction, reports Times of India.
A video from the event, which has since gone viral on social media, shows reporters asking Nigam for his views on the student-led demonstrations.
Instead of responding, the singer smiled briefly and walked away without making any statement.
His silence quickly divided opinion online.
Some social media users criticised the singer for not speaking on an issue that has triggered nationwide protests, arguing that public figures should use their platforms to address matters affecting millions of students.
Others, however, defended Nigam’s decision, saying celebrities should not be compelled to comment on every political or social issue.
Several supporters argued that the singer has to “walk on eggshells”, suggesting that any public statement could invite controversy or backlash regardless of his position.
The incident comes as the alleged NEET-UG paper leak and the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP)-led protests continue to dominate headlines.
In recent days, several film personalities, including Salman Khan, Alia Bhatt, Diljit Dosanjh, Shabana Azmi and Prakash Raj, have publicly expressed support for the protesting students, while others have chosen not to comment.
