Shoriful Islam struck twice in the same over as Australia lost three wickets for 41 runs in the second Test against Bangladesh at the Great Barrier Reef Arena in Mackay. Aussies went to tea with 50 for three.
Australia had made a quick start after Bangladesh were bowled out for 64. Travis Head and Matthew Renshaw put on 22 runs from the opening three overs before Taskin Ahmed provided the first breakthrough.
Renshaw, recalled to the side in place of Jake Weatherald, made eight from 10 balls before edging a delivery from Taskin to third slip. It ended the left-hander’s first Test innings since 2023. Australia were 22 for one after three overs.
Shoriful then made an immediate impact. In the eighth over, he bowled Head for 22 from 27 balls with an inside edge, for the third time in this series. Three balls later, Marnus Labuschagne was also bowled.
Labuschagne was unfortunate, with the ball striking his thigh pad before deflecting onto the leg stump. He made four from nine balls.
Australia were reduced to 41 for three, with Shoriful taking both wickets in the over. The quick’s double strike gave Bangladesh some momentum after their first-innings collapse. Australia went to tea with a 14-run deficit.
