Bangladesh’s leading female shooter Kamrunnahar Koly received a one-year ban on Monday after the Bangladesh Shooting Sports Federation confirmed disciplinary action following an executive meeting in Dhaka.
The Federation’s ad hoc committee ratified the decision after reviewing a temporary suspension imposed in early January. Officials said Koly breached the national team training camp’s code of conduct.
The suspension letter accused her of violating seven clauses of the code. It also referenced an incident on January 25 at the Federation office.
According to the letter, Koly showed “extremely indecent, insulting, threatening, and aggressive behavior” towards the General Secretary, executive committee members, officers and staff. A police officer witnessed the incident.
The Federation stated that her actions “severely damaged discipline, security, and the institutional reputation” of the organisation. It said the situation led to a breakdown in law and order.
Officials enforced the ban under Articles 16.20 and 16.21 of the Federation’s constitution. The ruling bars Koly from all shooting activities for one year.
Koly previously raised allegations of irregularities involving joint secretary GM Haider, including claims of sexual harassment. The Federation insisted the punishment related strictly to disciplinary matters.
The ban removes a major performer from the national setup. Koly remains the only Bangladeshi shooter to post a 629 score in the 10m Air Rifle qualification at the 2022 ISSF World Championship in Egypt.
Her absence leaves a clear gap ahead of upcoming competitions. The situation deepens after reports that another top shooter, Shaira Afrin, has stepped away from the sport amid the ongoing turmoil.
