Actor Shiba Shanu has been elected president and actor Joy Chowdhury general secretary of the Bangladesh Film Artistes’ Association for the 2026–2028 term.
The voting took place throughout Friday, and the election commission formally announced the results at 4:45am on Saturday.
According to the declared results, Shiba Shanu won the presidency with 243 votes, defeating fight director and actor Arman, who received 173 votes.
Joy Chowdhury secured the general secretary post with 237 votes, while his rival, actress Rumana Islam Mukti, received 179 votes.
The election was held on the premises of the Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (FDC). Out of 573 registered voters, 480 cast their ballots. The commission reported that 17 ballots were declared invalid.
In the weeks leading up to the election, the FDC compound had a festive atmosphere. The contest was primarily between two full panels — Arman–Mukti panel and Shiba Shanu–Joy Chowdhury panel.
Campaigning included promotional activities, panel introduction events, and voter outreach programmes. The election was conducted under the supervision of Chief Election Commissioner Kamal Md Kibria Lipu.
