A video clip of Shariatpur Deputy Commissioner (DC) Mohammad Ashraf Uddin with a woman went viral on social media that has sparked widespread discussion and criticism.
On condition of anonymity, several officials in the district administration said that the DC Ashraf has left the town without informing the authorities concern amid controversy. However, he could not be reached for comment over phone.
The controversy erupted after a 57-second video, showing DC Ashraf Uddin in an intimate moment with a woman, has been posted by an expatriate journalist named Jawad Nirjhar on social media on Friday. Meanwhile, the incident has sparked widespread discussion within the administration and among the public. However, no official investigation committee has been formed yet.
The woman involved in the video alleged to the media that Ashraf had built a relationship with her by promising to marry her, which resulted in the breakdown of her previous marriage. She said instead of keeping his promise, the DC is threatening to kill her now. He has even physically assaulted her, she alleged.
According to the district administration, Ashraf joined as the DC of Shariatpur on November 3 last year and is an officer of the 27th BCS administration cadre.
