Shan Masood refused to step down as Pakistan’s Test captain after Bangladesh national cricket team completed a 2-0 series whitewash in Sylhet.
Pakistan lost both matches after Bangladesh outplayed them across all four innings of the series. Bangladesh’s bowlers controlled long spells with spin and reverse swing, while the middle order delivered crucial runs under pressure.
Litton Das and Mushfiqur Rahim led the batting effort in the second Test. Mushfiqur earned the player of the series award after key contributions across the two matches. Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Taijul Islam repeatedly broke Pakistan’s partnerships and stopped the visitors from settling at the crease.
Masood admitted Pakistan made too many mistakes during the series. He pointed to missed opportunities with both bat and ball and accepted that Pakistan failed to control crucial sessions.
Pakistan’s selectors retained Masood as Test captain despite recent changes in leadership across formats. The Pakistan Cricket Board removed Mohammad Rizwan from the ODI captaincy earlier in the year after poor form.
Masood said he had done his job as captain on the field and left the final decision on his future to the PCB. Pakistan now face growing pressure in the World Test Championship table after the defeat in Bangladesh.
