Bangladesh’s premier all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan is set to step into a new role beyond cricket, as he prepares to enter the media industry as a publisher.
The former national captain is launching a digital news platform titled ‘Beyond Bangla’, aiming to deliver accurate reporting, objective analysis and globally relevant content to a wide audience.
Shakib is undertaking the initiative in collaboration with journalist Zulfikar Russell, who will serve as the editor of the platform. Russell brings extensive experience in both journalism and the music industry, having previously worked as the editor of Bangla Tribune.
Explaining the motivation behind the project, Shakib said that news is often presented in different ways, and the complete picture does not always reach the public.
“I feel that news is delivered in many different ways, and often the accurate version doesn’t reach people. If there’s something we can do to ensure the correct news reaches the audience, that’s where this idea comes from,” he said.
He added that the goal is to go beyond surface-level reporting and help audiences understand “the story behind the news”.
According to sources, the website structure for Beyond Bangla has already been finalised. However, the platform will not be made publicly accessible just yet.
If all goes according to plan, the digital outlet is expected to begin its operations within the next few months.
